"My works are both love notes to my subjects and study notes on the behavior and effect of light, water, wind and gravity."
Tracie is an acrylics and oil painter from Portland Oregon, who's art career has transitioned over the years from graphic design and illustration to teaching and studio art. While her subject choices cover a wide variety of topics, the consistent thread throughout her work is the kinesthetic quality her paintings impart. Whether the subject is a mushroom on a cool forest floor or the underwater view of a person doing a cannonball plunge, instead of answering the question, "How does that look?" Tracie's paintings strive to answer "How must that feel?"
Her training began in her home state of Missouri, where she studied commercial and fine arts and photography at Central Missouri State University. Currently she paints for the love of it both for herself and on contract. You can find her paintings in group shows and art events such as the Portland Open Studios Tour as well as on public display in places such as The Randall Children's Hospital and Macy's downtown. Tracie also teaches privately and through Portland's Regional Arts and Culture Council's (RACC) artist in residence programs--Young Audiences and The Right Brain Initiative.
"Like an actor discovering and revealing bits of herself in the characters she plays, I learn much about both the paint and the painter throughout each painting project. "
